University Testing Confirms EPTC's Bioreactor Process Converts
Animal Waste Into Stable, Mature End-product in 48 Hours
-

WEST LAKE VILLAGE, CA, January 27, 1999 -- Marvin Mears, president and chief executive officer of Environmental Products & Technologies Corporation, announced today that Utah State University has released an initial report on EPTC's Bioreactor, the core of EPTC's Closed-Loop Waste Management System.

Dr. Conly Hansen, professor of biological engineering at Utah State University in Logan, who has been studying anaerobic digestion for 21 years, stated, "The rapid rate of EPTC's composter makes it unique among processes that I have seen. In the tests we conducted, a stable, mature end-product was produced in 48 hours."

"To be effective in treatment of animal waste on a commercial scale, a system must be able to process appropriate volumes of waste within a relatively short time. With a 48-hour processing time, EPTC has achieved a significant benchmark in agricultural waste management," said Mears.

The EPTC soil product is a typical compost; however, creating it in about two days is extraordinary compared to other processes, which take 90 to 120 days. The EPTC system kills all pathogens and weed seeds, processes gases, and eliminates odors.

EPTC's Closed-Loop Waste Management System, which can be installed on-site and sized to the volume of the waste stream, is designed to address the concerns that the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) have about nutrients, pathogens, nitrogen, phosphorus, ammonia, odors and the adverse environmental impacts of animal feeding operations. The problem is urgent and widespread, and composting has proven a highly effective means of converting a toxic substance to a useful one.

"We are going to continue testing EPTC's process at Utah State University's working dairy. This work will provide data for the design of a useful Comprehensive Nutrient Management Plan [for animal feeding operations] as required by the USDA and the EPA," said Hansen.

EPTC's Closed-Loop Waste Management System converts solid animal waste into commercial-grade, pathogen-free, nutrient-rich, soil-building media and converts liquid waste into a non-potable water suitable for use in the farmer's fields.

Additionally, consistent with a renewed national interest in clean energy technologies, EPTC's patented co-generation system converts methane gas into electricity, which can be used to offset a portion of a farm's electrical costs, with excess being sold to the local power grid.

Environmental Products & Technologies Corporation is focused on solving environmental problems while enhancing the productivity of domestic farming and large livestock raising operations.
